(4236) Cone of depression, Cone of pumping depression, Cone of influence, Cone of exhaustion, Cone of water table depression, or Cone of pressure relief
A cone-shaped depression (in the water table in unconfined flow or in the piezometric surface in confined flow) developed around a well that is being pumped at any given rate of discharge. It has its apex in the well and its base in the water table or piezometric surface. Specially known as `Cone of water table depression` or `Cone of pressure relief` for non-artesian and artesian wells, respectively (illustrated).
